Snoop Dogg Gives Speech At Dr. Dre's Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremony

Dr. Dre was undoubtedly the man of the hour at the legendary producer’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, but it was Snoop Dogg who stole the show with an endearing speech saluting his longtime friend and collaborator.

On Tuesday (March 19), Dre’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star was unveiled during a customary ceremony commemorating the occasion, with Snoop, Eminem, 50 Cent, Big Boy, and Jimmy Iovine among the list of attendees.

While taking the podium, Snoop expressed his gratitude for Dre’s impact on his life, describing the hitmaker as his “teacher, mentor, brother, guardian, protector, and most importantly, a good friend.” He also harkened back to his initial introduction to Dr. Dre through 213 groupmate and childhood bud Warren G, Dre’s half-brother.

The 52-year-old jokingly thanked himself for putting himself in position to receive the fateful phone call from Dre and Warren G that would ultimately changed his life. He also admitted that attracting the interest of Dr. Dre was too good to be true that he hung up the phone on Warren G multiple times out of disbelief.

“I wanna thank me for taking the call from Warren and Dr. Dre in ’91, even though I hung up on Warren a few times ’cause I thought the n***a was lying,” Snoop said, eliciting chuckles from the crowd. Tha Doggfather also commended himself for his punctuality ahead of Dr. Dre’s star-studded Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show performance, which the rapper was part of in 2022. “I wanna thank me for showing up on time at the Super Bowl.”

Snoop then leaned on his laurels and delivered a freestyle he came up with for the occasion, in which he detailed the pair’s humble beginnings and their longstanding creative synergy.

“Dr. Dre, my brother from another mother, a rock in the sands on the beach he’d soon discover/ Now we deep cover, blood brothers on a mission, Dre’s edition,” the lyricist spat. “House with no furniture, studio in the back with a little bit of food in the kitchen/ Long Beach to Compton to Calabasas, compositions; pay attention/ Quincy had Michael, they rewrote the cycle/ So if Dre is Q and Mike is Snoop, we bang G thang, motherf**king supergroup.”

In addition to Snoop, Jimmy Iovine also took the podium to share words of reverence for the 59-year-old boardsman. “Dre is the greatest partner, friend, ally you could possibly have,” he said. “For all you people out there that are aspiring to get into entertainment, when you go to bed tonight, pray you meet a Dr. Dre.”
